Did you know that doctors call calves the “second heart”?
Your real heart pumps blood around your body - including your feet - but it’s your calves’ responsibility to send that blood back.
When your calf muscles contract, they compress the blood vessels in your legs and push the blood from your feet back up toward your heart.
Unfortunately, as we continue to age and sit for long periods of time, our calves get weak . They can no longer send all the blood back up, so some of it gets stuck in your feet and ankles.
It’s the root cause of your edema and the reason why your legs get swollen and feel like they’re stuck in the mud.
